MUSIC LESSONS FOR ALL AGES, STYLES AND LEVELS

Garrett Park School of Music was founded on the belief of sharing our passion for music with our community. Lessons began humbly in the '90s as people would come to us to sharpen their skills, and as the years went on, the school gradually grew to become what it is today. Through cultivating an environment for creative expression, our hope is to give back the freedom that music has given to us.

Rock Ensemble

What is it?

Requirements

Rock Ensemble is a weekly, 60-minute class that teaches students to perform in a group setting. Lesson curriculum focuses on learning complete songs, stage performance, and technical playing.  The Rock Ensemble meets weekly for one hour with a performance instructor who guides students through the challenges of playing a live rock 'n' roll show. Ensembles consist of four to five members, who will perform their rehearsed songs at least once a season at a local venue with a stage, lights, and full PA system.

Ages 7-17 

 

Students must have the ability to play through one or more songs with proficiency and exhibit skills necessary for playing with other musicians. The ability to sufficiently play with a metronome or live drummer is required.

  • Advanced techniques (pop/slap, muting/ghost notes, etc.)

  • Advanced scales & chord progressions

  • Playing through songs and analyzing chord/scale relationships

Drum Lessons

Beginner drum Lessons

  • Learning how to properly use drum sticks

  • Coordination exercises 

  • Learning to read & play your first songs

  • Getting familiar with the different pieces of a drum kit


Intermediate drum Lessons 

  • Introducing rudiments 

  • Learning and playing in different time signatures

  • Utilizing the full drum kit

  • Playing and constructing drum fills


Advanced drum lessons

  • Learning polyrhythms and metric modulation

  • How to swing
  • Syncopation and more advanced rhythmic variations
  • Learning how to transcribe drum grooves

Piano Lessons

Beginner Piano Lessons

  • Learning notes on the music staff (Bass and Treble clef) 

  • Using the left and right-hand separately 

  • Learning to read & play your first songs! 


Intermediate Piano Lessons 

  • Learning the damper pedal
